14岁被星探从一群舞蹈学生中挑选参加电影《给我们月亮》的演出。其后即片约不断。48年，被劳伦斯·奥利佛选为《王子复仇记》的女主角，饰演清新服俗的奥菲莉亚，并因此获得威尼斯影展最佳女主角奖。50年和演员史都华·格兰杰结婚，并随他迁居美国，以好莱坞的演出为主。60年离婚后，再与导演李察·布鲁克步入礼堂。70年代开始已呈半退休状态，但还能在一些电视影集如《剌鸟》中看到她的演出。90年代老当益壮，再度参加《肥龙皇帝》等片演出。
