斯卡布羅集市這首歌的歌詞至少追溯到十三世紀的英格蘭，至於曲調則更早，產生於蘇格蘭，很有可能受到了維京人和另一支蠻族凱爾特人的影響。維京人是那種大無畏的民族，而凱爾特則有著很多神秘難解的傳說，他們留給我們的印象當中，更多的是詭秘和傳奇，但是正是這些所謂的野蠻人創作了這首美妙的歌曲。
